Description
Lecture by James Fishburne, PhD, Director of Forest Lawn Museum and curator of "The Elevated Eye: Aerial Photography Past and Present." Using the Forest Lawn Aerial Photo Archive, the 30-minute illustrated lecture will address the history of Forest Lawn and the surrounding neighborhoods of Glendale. See the city and the memorial park evolve from open farmland to a bustling city and important historical site over the course of 100 years. Many of the images have never before been seen by the public. Following the lecture, James will lead a Q&A and tour of "The Elevated Eye," which will be followed by refreshments.
Bio: James Fishburne is the Director of Forest Lawn Museum. In 2014 he earned his PhD in Italian Renaissance art history from UCLA. He has taught courses on ancient Roman, Renaissance, and Baroque art history at UCLA, Cal State Long Beach, Pierce College, and Valley College. From 2015 through 2018 James worked at the Getty Research Institute where he developed and implemented programming for the Scholars Department. He has also curated exhibitions of prints and drawings at the Huntington Art Museum, including "Venice: Real and Imagined," which explored connections between Venice, Italy and Venice, California. James joined Forest Lawn in 2018 and "The Elevated Eye: Aerial Photography Past and Present" is the first exhibition he has curated for the museum.
